This year Claremont McKenna student fees were $210 dollars per student. Next year, they will be $235 per student.
What accounts for the rise?
Given the rather rowdy nature of some of the parties this year, ASCMC is investing in private security to the tune of $25,000. (And yes, that's ridiculous, even if an RA was stabbed.)
Although this amount seems exorbitant, a source on ASCMC informs me that the fees are still the lowest in the 5-Cs by "about 50 bucks."
I asked my source how much money per student is spent on the dorm level. Each RA gets $10 per student in his or her dorm. Next year, those RAs will get $15 per student.
I then asked my source if it was possible for the RA to give back the money to each student in his dorm. He said that just isn't possible. Well here's a question: why not?
I'm examine what one of our fellow colleges is doing in my next post.

As a former RA, I wish I had received $10 per student, but no money goes directly to RAs. Instead, dorm funds are controlled by the dorm president and, indirectly, by the DAC. (There's some possibility that that may change, though.)
