Did ASCMC Implicitly Admit Defeat Their Own Budget Problems?

I recently saw this filing in the employment section of this website, AccountingCrossing. You can read the specifics here.

We've blogged about the shenanigans of the ASCMC before and so we're please to see that ASCMC is considering a responsible policy with respect to the several hundred thousand dollars it takes from the students. Many students are forced to pay for parties they never attend or clubs they never would join.

Do they really need a part-time bookkeeper overseeing ASCMC's budget?

They might well argue that Pomona's ASPC has a full-time person on staff. That is so. But I ask, do we really want to be Pomona?

A better procedure would be for the bookkeeper or the ASCMC to put their entire budget online so that parents or students paying could see exactly where their money was going. Everytime money was spent an immediate line would appear on a website so that everyone can see who is receiving that money and what they are spending it for.

One of the members who deals with the budget says that ASCMC has "no incentive" to put the budget online. He's right, but we must require it of the ASCMC immediately.

Parents have a means of doing that by withholding those student fees until ASCMC shows greater accountability by showing us where every dollar goes.

And so we must continue to expose his and others' frivolous spending.

In the next post, we'll talk about where to start cutting that spending.

Next year, we'll be having a regular contributor who monitors the ASCMC's dealings.
