David Allen of San Gabriel Valley Tribune explains how the naked man was found."Let only the eager, reverent, and thoughtful enter here." Their naked, drunken family members can come and visit.
College security spotted the unclad man at 6 a.m. as he walked on College Avenue near Harrison Street.
When police officers arrived, according to the Claremont Courier's police blotter, the man said he was visiting his brother, who attends Pomona College, had drunk too much and "simply lost his clothing."
Don't you hate it when that happens? In an intriguing postscript, the Courier added: "Police later found his pile of clothing in the Village Expansion."
Perhaps his clothes expanded right off him.
Really, though, let's get this straight. Not only did he lose his clothing, but this man wandered at least six blocks through downtown Claremont in the nude?
Looks that way.
I've always wondered how it is that Claremont McKenna students get the reputation of alcholics. Pomona's the college with the bar, the high number of emergency room visits, and now they have the naked, drunken family members.
We know that they love banning things at Pomona. Trays, not-really-racist-songs, and now clothes. Don't be surprised if this is actually Pomona policy. The nudists, after all, are sure to be offended by all the clothes people wear at Pomona. Oxtoby will appoint a committee and they'll be two scholarships to study clothing and Pomona College.
P.S. I really, really wish this had happened during Alumni weekend. Now that would have been one for the ages!

You love to take any opportunity you can get to pick on Pomona, don't you Charles? I fail to understand how the irresponsibility of one person who doesn't even go to Pomona should be associated with the actions of the school as a whole.
Pick on? No.
Point out? You betcha!
You never cease to amaze (read: utterly disappoint) me Charles. To even begin to suggest that this is not Pomona bashing is nothing short of ludicrous. The actions of one man, who claims to be related to a Pomona student, in no way reflect upon the Pomona community, nor should they. To attempt to connect the two is just plain stupid. Maybe it's time to grow up and stop promulgating the ridiculous animosity you hold against Pomona.
I'd would also like to point out that you linked to one of your previous posts in which you supposedly proved that Pomona has higher rates of emergency room visits. If you actually read that post and the comments, you were already proven to be wrong, and admitted to being wrong, and apologized for making it seem like you were Pomona bashing. You are a ridiculous little man.
Anonymous,
It's called having fun at others' expense.
On citing the other post, I wasn't "proven to be wrong" and I certainly didn't apologize for citing a book that talked about Pomona's drinking problem a few years back.
Can you even read?
I can read very well thank you very much. The question is can you read? I never said that you apologized for citing a book that talked about Pomona's drinking problem. I said that you apologized for making it seem like you were Pomona bashing (or in your words, "having fun at others' expense").
If you go back to your post that you linked to, you said "I'm sorry if that came across as Pomona bashing."
And it was shown that CMC had a higher rate of emergency room visits than Pomona did this year, at least, according to the statistics that you cite in other posts.
You're quoting me entirely out of context, which is typical of far left types like yourself.
As Aditya just wrote, only four of the kids who visited the emergency room this semester were from CMC. The remaining 10 were divided between Pomona and Pitzer. I'm told that the majority were actually Pomona students but I cannot yet confirm that.
First of all, I have never said that I am a liberal or from the left. Quit making assumptions, they will get you no where.
As for the alcohol related incidents, Aditya may have written that, but unless you show me some information proving that, I'm not conceding the point. Nevertheless, regardless of the identities of the students who went to the emergency room, they occurred on CMC's campus, indicating a problem with CMC's alcohol policy. I'm not defending the drinking culture at Pomona, lord knows that it's bad, but so is CMC's.
You also carefully avoided responding to my (actual) argument that your original post was nothing but pointless Pomona bashing. If I were a lesser man I would try to attribute that to the fact that you're a right-winger, but I know that making generalizations about a group based upon a single member is illogical and counterproductive.
Patrick,
There are no official statistics. If CMC published any official statistics, we would have to ban all non-CMC students from our parties, especially TNC's.
Yes it does make a difference if most of our incidents involve Pomona students. For starters, they're drinking on our tab. Since they don't drink with caution, we have to take care of them and send them to hospitals. I don't know who pays for these visits, but either way its undesirable.
No, our drinking policy isn't the problem here. CMC students do drink a lot, but we never had so many incidents. CMC policy is designed for CMC students, and for a school with a drinking culture, 4/1000 isn't a problem.
I would love to show you some official statistics. The problem is, once they publish the numbers, there's no good reason to allow non-CMC students into TCN, or atleast try to reduce the number.
So you admit that the statistic you claim is completely unsubstantiated? Or is there some source where I can get this information? Anywhere?
Regardless, can we get back to the point? The original post itself was nothing short of pointless Pomona bashing, and did nothing but contribute to the unnecessary animosity between Pomona and CMC. This kind of attack has no place in a blog that purports to "entertain a truthful and honest dialogue with the students."
Why is that whenever we make fun of Pomona you accuse us of "Pomona bashing"-- a not so subtle indication that we're on the same plane with "gay bashing"?
Give me a break.
So many Pomona students tend to be humorless, free riders. What a pity!
When I suggested that you were "Pomona bashing" I was using your words, not mine. But nice try. For a second there you almost had me convinced that I was subconsciously trying to link you to gay bashing.
As for a sense of humor, I have a very good one, thank you. I just don't find it very funny when you take every opportunity you can get to make fun of Pomona. That's not humor, it's derisive and pathetic.
Pomona has a bar? Sweet! Where is it?

Charles, can you really not look into your heart and find the joy of a man scampering about our fair city impishly, wearing nothing but a naughty grin?
When did that once open and beautiful heart turn to stone?
Is this really the death of innocence, when we must wear clothes in public? What's next? A congressional ban on rainbows?
Well Pomona says no to the ban on rainbows. Maybe you disagree, and that's your right.
Charles,
CMC isn't free from its own instances of naked students. Before your time a rather popular SAC was banned for life from Scripps after he went to the party drunk and naked (his sister attends Scripps). There was also an incident this year or the end of last year in which a CMC student under the influence of several substances got naked at an HMC party. He had to be tackled and escorted back to his room.
While the incident you have described is funny, the underlying point of the post is clear: to demean Pomona and its students. If you're going to do so just say it outright.
And next time at least report on an instance where an actual Pomona student is found doing something stupid.
Gracchus,
Thanks so much for the history on Claremont McKenna and nakedness. I'll be sure to write about it next time the subject comes up. Alas, the Pomona story made the newspaper and hence became worthy of covering.
For what it's worth, the guy changed his story a bunch, and actually claimed his brother went to Pitzer, not Pomona. Also, alcohol transport stats can be found at HEO. Just go talk to the nice lady in charge.
