CMC Alum John Lerew Runs For Congress

John Lerew CMC '81 is a Republican running for the 7th Colorado congressional district. Were he to be elected, he would be the second Claremont McKenna alum to be elected to U.S. Congress. The first is David Dreier who elected in 1980 when he was only 28. Dreier represents Claremont and a chunk of Inland Empire.

Lerew launched a new website where you can donate to him. He also recently joined Facebook and that's where I found this photo.

Still, Lerew has had a hard time running in what was once a competitive district. He has little money on hand. Lerew went from write-in to GOP candidate.

One of his volunteers shows the contrast between Lerew and Perlmutter.

1. Lerew believes in drilling for oil to increase domestic production and bring the price of gas down. Perlmutter has voted for fees, taxes, and restrictions on oil companies, discouraging domestic exploration and production of oil.

2. Lerew favors keeping the tax cuts brought in during the Bush administration. Perlmutter votes with Nancy Pelosi-led Democrats 96 percent of the time. Democrats oppose keeping the tax cuts, refusing to have a vote for their renewal.

3. Lerew is pro-life. Ed Perlmutter has a 100 percent rating with pro-abortion groups.

4.Perlmutter has voted to withdraw all American troops from Iraq within 30 days.

The choice seems clear enough to me. Vote Lerew!
