Death Penalty Activist at Pitzer College Says Death Penalty is Bad!

Let me get my facetiousness out of the way. Gosh, Pitzer College is so intellectually diverse! They brought an anti-death penalty speaker to their campus. Wow. What a shock.

In all seriousness, Pitzer College brought a biased speaker, Mike Farrell, to their campus to make a disjointed argument against capital punishment using a bias laden report.

Mike Farrell of MASH and Superman fame spoke out against capital punishment, according to The Claremont Courier. Here's some of what he said.

In July, the California Commission of the Fair Administration of Justice found that abolishing capital punishment would save $125 million a year. It costs an extra $90,000 per prisoner per year to hold on death row rather than in the general maximum security prison population, the commission found.

"The report has been ignored entirely by the governor," Mr. Farrell said.

And with good reason as the dissent on the report makes clear. Chief among these is the argument that the death penalty is "dysfunctional" that the report attributes to California Supreme Court Chief Justice Ronald M. George.

In fact, as the dissent makes clear, he said that "The existing system for handling capital appeals in California is dysfunctional and needs reform. The state has more than 650 inmates on death row, and the backlog is growing."

And why would the appeals process be dysfunctional and in need of reform?

Well, maybe, just maybe, if it weren't for their anti-death penalty allies, like the A.C.L.U. who thrive on those endless appeals for obvious guilt, the process would be that much quicker.
